Why I keep getting welder spatter?

right now I'm using my friend's SIP weldmate 120A MIG welder. Idk why it's so hard for me to get it right. I've followed instructions from here and other forums, but still, I got spatter. I know that practice makes perfect, but I feel like I need more guiding. So, tell me your thoughts people!
 
In my experience with MIG welding, spatter often comes down to settings or technique. Check if your voltage and wire feed speed are balanced as an unstable arc can cause spatter. Ensure the base metal is clean and free of oil or rust and adjust your torch angle to around 15°. Have you tested different shielding gases or wire types to see if they make a difference?

Wire feed speed is the one behind it most definitely. Also, agree with @_g33km3ist3r you need to look at your torch angle, too. But the flow rate of the gas matters also. And for the spatter specifically, just clean the metal of rust and oil. Ew.

That happened to me too when I first used a SIP Weldmate.. Adjusting the stick-out length solved the issue for my case. But I agree with the others, it's mostly due to wire speed and voltage not getting dialed in perfectly for the material thickness!
 
Spatter is annoying but it's also your machine's way of telling you that something's wrong. A lot of entry-level machines like the SIP Weldmate have a simpler setup, which can make fine-tuning a bit trickier than on professional welders. It's not just a matter of practice; it's about understanding the specific machine and the process.


It's about finding the balance that the welder's simple controls can achieve and once you find it, you'll be able to produce much cleaner welds. So, good luck!
