Ugh I don't know why I put myself in this situation, but I need your help URGENTLY. I am applying for a temporary job and their only opening is MIG welder, but to be honest I really don't know how to set it up. My experience is more on TIG welding so the cables on the MIG welding are confusing me right now because of the polarity in reverse. Can you please give me a quick run through? I just want to be prepared in case they put me on the spot tomorrow.

You'll be fine MIG runs opposite polarity from TIG, so make sure the torch is positive if using gas and negative if running flux core. Check the machine for a settings chart to dial in voltage and wire speed. If they put you on the spot, just take a second to confirm everything before you start

You can fake it till you make it (safely) LOL I'm sorry I kinda giggled when I read this thread. Anywyway just do with the reverse polarity (it's DCEP). Also do a quick cable check, the torch should be at the positive and the ground clamp in the negative, that's it! If it's flux core like @Jobberman_ it's straight polarity so it's reverse. Anyway just hold the gun at 15-degrees and LOOK CONFIDENT DOING IT. I'm sure you'll get it. Learn along the way when you're hired!

didn't they usually have some training for beginner welders? I don't think you can just jump in like that lol. how about looking at tutorials on YT before you start to work

You've got this! Here's the scoop, for MIG welding with gas, use DCEP (torch to positive, ground to negative). The wire feeds through the torch, and you'll want a 75/25 gas mix. Just adjust your voltage and wire speed using the chart on the machine. Honestly, it's way simpler than TIG once you get the hang of it.

AGREE with this. Hahaha. I know the interview is possibly over by now. Most likely. If OP hasn't replied yet maybe he got the job and is now busy.
