I just saw your question from several months ago and wonder if you chose a welder for your projects. Your initial idea to use a MIG machine is excellent for the steel fabrication and repair work common around a stable. The most important technical question is what material your horse trailer is made from, since many modern trailers use aluminum. If you need to work on both steel and aluminum, you will want a MIG machine with a spool gun attachment or a multi-process machine with AC TIG capability. Is your trailer all steel, or is it one of the aluminum-skinned or all-aluminum designs?
