best practices for tig welding brass

Anyone here have experience TIG welding brass? I know silicon bronze is the go-to filler, but I'm curious if there are other options people use, especially when color matching really matters. This project needs the welds to blend in more than stand out.

Also, any tips for running brass on TIG would be appreciated. I've heard about zinc fumes being nasty, and that the heat control is touchier than on bronze or copper. Would like to hear what's worked for others before I waste rod and plate figuring it out the hard way.

I had a similar job fixing up a brass lamp for someone who wanted the welds to look clean. I used a brass filler rod for better color, kinda hard to find but looks nicer. Go easy on the heat since brass gets hot fast and can bend. And yep, those zinc fumes are bad! Use a mask and good airflow. Warming the metal a bit before welding helped too. Hope that helps!

Use 60/40 or 50/50 brass rods if exact color matching is critical, but the arc is a bit trickier so definitely watch your heat because brass heats fast and warps easily, and ventilation is key to avoid zinc fumes

Yeah, I've had the same problems. Brass rod can match the color better, but it's tricky and can crack if it gets too hot. Sheet brass handles heat a bit better than cast, which can turn rough or break more easily.
