A new railing above an old railing

Has anyone tried to do this as a project? I live with my grandparents and the need railings to hold onto when climbing the steps to our main door. the old railing is still good, just hoping to a bit more above it. any inputs or tips before i start this? thanks!

Doable yeah, jsut make sure the extension is sturdy, securely mounted, and at a comfortable height. Use rust resistant materials if it's outside. A drill, brackets, and some solid pipe or wood should do the trick.

Adding onto an old railing sounds sketchy. If your grandparents are relying on it, DIY might do more harm than good. Some things aren't worth cutting corners, this is one of them. Safety shouldn't be optional.
