So my knowledge isn't too bad when it comes to mig and tig welding, but I'd like to know more about certain specifics. For example, I'm looking for a comparison for er70s 2 vs er70s 6 rods. I know one is for mig and the other for tig welding, but what are the specifics? What is the one better at than the other and the other way around?
 
From what i know, ER70S-6 works well for MIG welding especially if the metal isn't perfectly clean, it can handle slight rust or dirt better. While ER70S-2, is best for TIG welding when working with very clean metal and needing precise control.

Have you tried both?

don't get me wrong, the answer is true, but I have to explain the mostly rusty part. Mostly rusty means a bit of surface rust, not something that's half eaten already. Many people mistake this, and they have problems down the line. Other than that, that's the jist of it.
 
My brother took up welding not too long ago and asked me about different types of rods. I can tell you that ER70S-6 is definitely easier to work with on less-than-ideal surfaces, making it a solid choice for MIG and general welding tasks. On the other hand, ER70S-2 really excels in TIG welding when you need clean, precise joints on properly prepared metal. As they say, just be careful about how rusty the metal is before making your selection!

Quick run-through for you. ER70S-6 is more forgiving on dirty or rusty metal, so it's great for MIG when the preparation isn't perfect. ER70S-2 is more suitable for TIG and really shines on clean steel with tight tolerance work.
