Looking at a Lincoln SP125 Plus in a pawn shop... clean, cheap, but honestly wondering if it's even worth it in 2025. A buddy of mine needs a 120v MIG for light work, and I'm trying to figure out if this old SP is a gem or just nostalgia. Specs are close to a Pro Mig 140, but the SP's continuous voltage control is the only real advantage I see. The 140's tapped settings aren't as "fine," but in practice most people just run within a couple windows anyway. Plus, the Pro Migs are newer and easier to get parts for. So what's the real story? is the SP125 actually built better than the box-store 140s, or are both machines limited by 120v power no matter what?
