I'm a mechanical engineer turned IT manager. i can gas weld stick weld, and MIG weld. At home i got an old SIP stick welder thats still kicking after 25 years and a newer Clarke MW 1503T MIG. i love spending time in my garage working on my off-road 4X4 hobby. Honestly i spend more time fixing it than driving it but it beats the boring IT stuff i deal with all day. i want a used TIG welder to weld a roll cage steering parts and CDS tube. i also tweak gearbox gears with my MIG but TIG looks way better. Plus i use it for body repairs since it gives me more control. my budget's around £250 and i seen some on eBay. i only got 240V single phase power. what machine and features should I look for??

On 240V single phase with £250, look for a dc TIG with HF start and at least 160A. Foot pedal's a plus for control. R Tech, Parweld, or a used Miller/Lincoln could be pretty good options, if you find a deal. eBay's a gamble, check return options. scratch start? nah, avoid the headache.
