Direct current Tig & mild steel

For mild steel, 75% argon and 25% CO2 is a good mix for MIG welding. It gives a nice balance between penetration and control. If you want smoother welds, pure CO2 is cheaper but can give more spatter. Just make sure to set your welder correctly to match the gas choice

Most times you get recos to mix argon and CO2 but honestly, there's something about the whole gas setup that always feels like there's room for improvement. It's one of those things you can tweak over time, depending on how the welds turn out and at times it just feels like a never ending search for a perfect balance.
