Spot Welding

Been getting more into sheet metal work lately and starting to go deeper into spot welding but I've mostly done MIG in the past, so this is a bit of a new lane for me, picked up this basic spot welder for small automotive patches, floor pans and inner fenders mostly and the results have been well....solid so far, but I'm still balancing out with pressure and timing, also could I do spot with TIG? and is spot better than plug welding, which one holds up better?

Right on for jumping into spot welding! You can use a TIG welder with a timer for a similar effect but a good MIG plug weld will hold till the cows come home and is often stronger than a factory spot weld. What kind of spot welder are you working with?

Spot welding is great for OEM style panels, it's clean and fast. Plug welding is better for thicker materials or when you have tight access

Spot welding and TIG aren't interchangeable, TIG doesn't do true spot welds. As for spot vs. plug welding, spot usually wins for strength in thin sheet metal, but plug welding is better for tricky joints or thicker panels.
