New to this Forum but always find very knowledgeable people on Boards and was hoping someone can help with some info.
My problem is 'No Wire Advance' on an older Century Solar 2-175 wire feed welder-.
Its an 'Oldie but a Goodie'.... At least untill now .... Any Ideas ?
Wire does not advance either at the trigger, or the manual push button on welder face plate, when pressure wheel is engaged.
When pressure wheel is not engaged, wire advances very slowly, using the trigger or the button.
When pressure wheel is engaged, wire does not advance at all, using the trigger or the button - wheel just stops turning.
Have taken the motor out to troubleshoot & check to see if might be that.
Connected motor direct to 12v car battery & motor moved slow.ly.
But being it's a 24v motor, I connected two (2), 12v batteries 'in series' & it seems to operate normally?
Maybe even too fast.
So, I was thinking it may be a voltage supplied to the motor problem with welders' PC control board?
Not sure what to do next, but its a pretty old welder, and Im sure any parts have long been discontinued, and are no longer available.
I can go on a treasure hunt for parts, but need a solid idea as to problems root cause issue.
Maybe also some ideas of where to look for parts would be helpful too.
Am I thinking correctly that its most likely in main PC board ?
