My granddad used to say, "If it sparks and smokes, it's either welding or marriage." I miss those old-school zingers. Anyone else got funny welding quotes passed down or picked up over the years?

My granddad always used to joke, "If it sparks and smokes, it's either welding or marriage." I really miss those classic one-liners. Does anyone else have any funny welding quotes they've heard over the years or passed down through their own families?

A coworker once put it, "Measure with a micrometer, mark with a crayon, and cut with a torch." Another one is, "You can't weld on cold steel," which is usually said when someone is procrastinating. My favorite is a simple one about getting the job done right, "A welder's best friend is a grinder." It’s true you often spend more time grinding than welding, but it all leads to a good result.
